Lining up parallax layers….

  • In our first game we use large non repeating parallax layers that scroll relative to the foreground/camera position (a common effect used to give the impression of depth).

    We wanted to align these layers so that the artwork in the background layers would match the foreground layers when travelling through the game world.

    This presents a problem when editing the artwork in these layers. Static layers of different size don’t align, this makes it very difficult to know where to place artwork.  The simple solution Joe came up with was to copy the foreground into the background layers and scale down. This gave us the perfect guide layer to draw our background layers on. A simple, elegant solution that you might find useful.
